What is translation technology and how does it work?
At international events, it’s not always certain that all guests are fluent in the speaker’s language. To be able to follow the presentations well, it’s necessary to follow the presentation(s) in another language. This is possible with simultaneous interpretation. Here, the presentation given is directly translated by interpreters, after which the relevant guests can listen to the presentation in another language.
In a nutshell, it works as follows. The audio picked up by the speaker’s microphone is not only broadcast through the speakers in the room, but is also sent to the interpreter booths. Here sit the interpreters who will immediately speak the translation on the interpreter console in the booth. This is then wirelessly sent to the receivers with headsets. Through these headsets, guests can listen to the translation of the presentation and still follow the speaker well.
What’s Included in This Translation Equipment Set?
This translation technology set is fully prepared for 3 languages. This means that three translations can be made from the language spoken on the floor. For example, if the presentation is given in English, but guests want to follow the presentation in German, French, and Spanish, we speak of three languages.
This package includes, among other things, three interpreter booths with room for two interpreters and two interpreter consoles in each booth (this way two interpreters can alternate), all necessary transmitters (assuming an ideal scenario) and an initial number of 25 receivers with headsets for the guests. Guests can choose which of the translations they want to listen to via the headset on the receiver itself.
How do I determine the number of languages needed for my translation set?
The number of languages needed depends entirely on the language skills of your guests at the event. You’ll need to assess yourself whether the spoken language of the event is sufficient for your guests to follow the presentations or if translations are needed. In this set, you have the option to provide three translations of the spoken language to your guests. Does your event require more translations? Feel free to contact us to discuss the possibilities.
How do I determine the number of receivers needed for my translation set?
That varies for each event. It relates to the guests who are not proficient in the spoken language. If you want to be on the safe side, you order as many receivers as guests you expect during your event. Then you’ll always have a receiver with headset available for every guest to follow the presentation in another language. This would also mean that none of your guests are proficient in the speaker’s language. Often, the number of receivers ordered is lower than the total number of guests in the room, but the specific number depends on your situation.
How Does Connecting This Translation Equipment to an Audio System Work?
To ensure that the interpreters can follow the presentation(s) well, it’s necessary that we get a ‘tap’ from the microphone(s) used on the stage. We’ll take care of the rest.
Don’t have a sound system, microphones, and a stage for the speaker? We can certainly provide you with these as well. Don’t hesitate to contact us and present your case to us.
Are the interpreters included in the translation set?
No, interpreters are not included and we cannot organize them for you. This is because in many fields, specific knowledge is required about certain language use or specific words. Literal translation or word-for-word translation is simply not possible, as the meaning of the story would no longer be accurate. You will therefore have to organize the interpreters yourself.
What is the difference between a translation set and a whisper set?
There are many differences between a translation set and a whisper set. The biggest and most practical difference is that with a whisper set, the interpreter stands among the people, often next to the speaker, instead of in a separate booth. This can cause noise interference for guests who want to follow the speaker in the original language.
The technology of a whisper set is also much more limited and not really suitable for (larger) conferences or presentations. When using a translation set, our technicians can monitor and adjust many aspects. The interpreters in the booths also have many control options on their interpreter consoles, ensuring unparalleled audio quality for the guests. A translation set also uses a 2.4 GHz transmitter network, ensuring good coverage for the receivers in the event hall.
Can I rent this translation set and set it up and dismantle it myself?
No, unfortunately that is not possible. To be honest, you shouldn’t want to do this either. Knowledge of professional audio systems and specifically this type of translation technology is required. Simply reading a manual is not enough to master this technology. This is why we only offer translation sets in combination with setup and dismantling.
Does a translation technician need to remain present at the event?
It’s not strictly necessary, but it does give many clients peace of mind. In principle, the translation set runs entirely on its own once it’s set up. However, if things need to be changed or cables are accidentally unplugged, it may not work 100% afterward. This is why many clients choose to have a technician with specific knowledge of this system present during the event. You can then immediately address any situations that arise.
