What is fresnel lighting?

A fresnel is a lamp with a ribbed lens. This gives a much softer light. In addition, this lens, divided into concentric rings, gives a higher light output than a more conventional PC spotlight. Fresnels are therefore often used in backlighting or stage wash lighting.

What is a profile spotlight?

A profile spotlight or a cutting spotlight as it is also called, is used to specifically illuminate people or objects. Also called a ‘special’. A profile spotlight has a reflector and a light source with multiple lenses in front of it, which makes it function as a light projector. The profile spotlight contains metal plates (called blades or shutters) that can be slid in front of the light source to influence the surface to be illuminated. A gobo can also be placed in a profile spotlight for gobo projection.
