Description
This BlackMagic Design Hyperdeck Studio 12G offers the ability to record video material from, for example, a livestream. When you organize a livestream, you may want to make it available afterwards for viewing later. This is useful when important information is presented. Normally, this is not possible with a livestream. When the livestream stops, the video is gone. Nowadays, there is a solution for this.
How do I connect the BlackMagic Design Hyperdeck Studio 12G?
Connecting the video recorder is very simple. On the rear, you can easily connect a video source via the SDI or HDMI connection. This can be either a separate camera for a so-called ISO recording or a video mixer for recording the actual broadcast. The so-called ‘program’. This recorder can handle resolutions from 525i 59.94Hz to 2160p 60Hz. With this, you can record almost any currently available resolution.
How does recording video footage work?
On the front, the BlackMagic Design Hyperdeck Studio 12G is equipped with two large slots. You can insert SSD drives into these for recording. The dual SSD slot is designed to guarantee continuous recording. If the first drive is full, the Hyperdeck seamlessly switches to the second drive. This way, the recording always continues and not a second will be missed. Before you start recording, it is always essential to format the supplied SSD drives. This way, you ensure that the drives are empty, so you get the maximum capacity out of them. You can then immediately determine whether you want to format the drives with an ExFAT or HFS+ file system. This is essential if you want to connect them later to a computer or Mac that can only handle a specific structure. After formatting the drives, it is also important to determine in which codec you want to record the content. Depending on disk space, recording duration, chosen codec, and the editing program, you can make a well-informed decision. As a rule of thumb, the ‘rawer’ the codec, the more data is recorded per second on the drive. Of course, your computer must be able to handle this during post-processing. Otherwise, it’s better to choose a more compressed codec or lower resolution.
Is an SSD drive provided when renting a BlackMagic Design Hyperdeck Studio 12G?
When renting a BlackMagic Design Hyperdeck Studio 12G, an SSD drive is not included as standard. You can add this via the ‘extras’ at the top of this page. Keep in mind that the SSD drive is not a purchase item. This means it needs to be returned. Since the SSD drives are rental items, the content you have recorded will be erased upon return. Therefore, always make sure you have retrieved all data from the drive yourself so that it is not lost.
