Description

Connecting a guitar or keyboard to the mixing console? Use a D.I. box to prevent interference.

What can I use this D.I. box for?

D.I. box stands for ‘direct injection’. But what does a D.I. box actually do? In summary, it converts a high impedance signal into a signal with lower impedance. This is necessary because some musical instruments output sound with high impedance. This cannot be processed, or not properly, by a mixing console, causing distortions in the sound. This is obviously not desirable. For this reason, the D.I. is connected between the instrument and the sound system to ensure good sound quality.

What is the difference between an active and passive D.I. box?

An active D.I. box needs an external power supply. This is not the case with a passive D.I. box. The BSS AR-133 is an active D.I. box that can be powered via phantom power from the mixer or via a 9V battery in the D.I. box itself. This way, you can always provide power to the D.I. box, even if the mixing console doesn’t send phantom power.

Will I still have a ground hum if I use a D.I. box?

No. The BSS AR-133 is galvanically isolated. This means that thanks to this isolation, the input and output signals remain separated. This prevents the well-known ground hum. Quite desirable if you want to have high-quality sound at your event.

How do I connect the BSS AR-133?

Use a quality 6.3 Jack cable between your instrument (for example, an electric guitar or the output of a guitar amplifier) and the BSS AR-133 D.I. Box. Then you can connect the D.I. box to an input channel on the mixing console using a 3-pin XLR cable. Keep in mind that these cables are not included. You can add these via the extras at the top of this page.
