Description

A shackle is used for lifting or securing loads. When lifting and hoisting heavy materials, it’s important that connections are as safe as possible. Most materials for hanging audiovisual equipment are equipped with a ring, eye, or other type of connection. For safety reasons, these are often not openable. A closed connection is generally much stronger than one that can open and close. Shackles provide a solution in this case.

What does a shackle do?

This shackle usually provides the connection between two different materials. The pin is removable, allowing closed connections to be attached to each other. It is necessary to always check if this shackle is used correctly. Due to the round bow and flat pin, this connection often needs to be installed in a specific way. This connection is not round, after all. For example, such a shackle cannot handle lateral loads very well.

Which type of shackle do I need?

As you may have seen, you can choose from multiple types of shackles. By switching between the types of shackles, you will see the corresponding images. The Crosby Shackle Screw Pin 1 Ton is suitable for hanging lightweight materials. Think of hanging decorations, banners, or a projector screen. This shackle has a pin that screws into the shackle and closes it.

We also have this same type of shackle in a heavier category. This is the 3.25-ton version. This is used for hanging heavier materials such as truss systems, hoists, and other rigging equipment. The last type of shackle, the Shackle Bolt Type 3.25 ton, can handle loads as heavy as the screw pin version but has a pin that can be secured with a nut and R-spring. This type of shackle is mandatory in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The choice of shackle type therefore depends on what you’re going to attach and where you’re going to attach it.
