What is the light source of the AX2 PixelBar?

Under the hood, this Astera AX2 PixelBar boasts 16 powerful 10-watt light sources. Together, these independently controllable LEDs deliver a total power of 160 watts. Just like in the previously introduced TitanTube and Nyx Bulb, this fixture also features the well-known light source based on Philips RGBMA (Red, Green, Blue, Mint, Amber) LEDs. This unique composition allows you to create colours that were previously impossible with standard RGB(A)W compositions. Before leaving the factory, each light source in the AX2 PixelBar is calibrated. This way, Astera can guarantee a colour fidelity higher than 96 (TLCI > 96 and CRI >96).

Which filters are included when renting an Astera AX2 LED Pixelbar?

Unlike the other fixtures in Astera’s AX line, the AX2 PixelBar has a standard beam angle of 21°. This is compared to the previously used 13° in the AX3, AX5, and AX9. The standard beam has been modified with new optics from Gaggione. This results in even better colour mixing from floor to ceiling. A completely uniform colour is the result. Of course, it’s possible to manipulate the standard 21° beam with the included filters. By placing the Flood Filter, a beam angle of 30 degrees is created. If you use the WallWash filter, it even becomes 120 degrees.

What is the battery life of an Astera AX2 Pixelbar?

It hardly needs explanation anymore, but this Astera fixture also features a built-in battery for fully wireless operation. No more cables, a fantastic clean result, and time savings during event setup and breakdown. These are the most prominent advantages of using battery-powered lighting. Under the hood, the Astera AX2 PixelBar has a powerful LG Chem battery that allows the LED bar to function for up to 20 hours continuously with correct settings on the Astera App. If the PixelBar is completely empty, it takes only 5 hours to fully charge it.

What is the ‘seamless runtime’ function and why is it important?

How can I be sure that the lighting will last until the end of the event? This is a frequently asked question for fixtures that operate on an internal battery. Astera has devised a solution for this: the ‘seamless runtime’. With this, the lamp itself calculates how much battery capacity it may use to reach the set duration. You can set Astera lamps to a maximum seamless runtime of 20 hours, after which the lamp ensures that it will continue to function continuously during this set period. This way, you can be certain that you’ll make it to the end of the event. A reassuring feeling.

What are the wireless communication capabilities of an Astera AX2 Pixelbar?

To control the Astera fixtures remotely, a special controller has been developed; the AsteraBox. This device functions as a kind of ‘translation machine’. By connecting the AsteraBox to the AsteraApp, you can send colours, programs, and chases to the lights. The AsteraBox also receives information back from the lights, such as battery indication, set dim curve, and the status of the light. This communication takes place via the RF band (865 – 870 MHz). With this, Astera avoids the busy 2.4 GHz band. This prevents interference, but also increases the range to 300 meters. Of course, this AsteraBox (and the included tablet) also operates on an internal battery. If the lighting technician prefers to use a DMX lighting console instead of the AsteraApp, the AsteraBox can also be used as a wireless DMX transmitter. Using the included adapter, you can quickly transform the box into a DMX transmitter, giving the lighting technician full control over the lights with their console.

Can I use the Astera AX2 pixelbar flicker-free?

Since the AX2 PixelBar has been developed for both the events and the film and broadcast industries, the light from this LED bar must perform exceptionally well on camera. In the past, LED lighting could cause problems in combination with cameras. This is because LED lighting doesn’t stay on continuously, like an old-fashioned incandescent bulb, but actually flickers very quickly, like a strobe light. This is not perceptible to the human eye, but it is to a camera. Using an AsteraBox, you can set the refresh rate of the PixelBar in the application between 200 and 1205 Hz. This prevents you from seeing flickering LED lighting in the recordings. Through a handy tool in the Astera application, you simply indicate the frame rate at which your cameras are set, and AsteraBox takes care of the rest. Convenient, right?

What is the Astera AX2 PixelBar BarConnect+ function?

The new Astera AX2 PixelBar also features a very handy new function. With BarConnect+, it’s possible to link multiple PixelBars together. These pixel bars are designed in such a way that the distance between the pixels, even when connected, is the same as the distance between the individual pixels within the bar. This gives you a completely uniform and even distribution of light. Additionally, this BarConnect+ connection allows for inter-fixture communication.
