Description

The Astera AX9 PowerPAR is the most versatile LED spot of the moment. Unprecedented quality and multifunctional use. Building on the success of the multifunctional AX5 TriplePAR, Astera has introduced a new addition: the Astera AX9 PowerPAR. This new spotlight features all the functionalities you would expect from a contemporary fixture. Of course, this spot also has a built-in battery that lasts up to 20 hours. Additionally, this fixture can communicate fully wirelessly via wireless DMX or the well-known AsteraApp. The spot is completely waterproof (IP65) and thus perfectly suitable for outdoor use, regardless of weather conditions. For cooling the internal elements, this PowerPAR does not use fans. The special aluminum housing provides sufficient opportunities for the spot to dissipate its heat. Moreover, this spot operates with a powerful and reliable 105-watt RGBMA light source, all while being completely silent. These characteristics, among others, ensure that the AX9 PowerPAR is highly versatile in its applications. Due to its very high quality and German craftsmanship, this fixture is extremely reliable. Using it for an important international conference, presentations, or seminar is therefore no problem. You can use these spots for indirect ambient lighting to decorate an event location, but also as spotlights for illuminating a stage or exhibition stand. Outdoors, this Astera AX9, with its weather-resistant housing, is excellently suited for illuminating facades, bridges, and other objects.

What is the light source of an Astera AX9?

Under the hood, this Astera AX9 features a powerful 105-watt light source based on Philips RGBMA LEDs. If you’re not familiar with the composition of Astera’s light sources, this requires explanation. Since the release of the TitanTube, Astera has been using a special light source where mint (M) and amber (A) colored LEDs are applied. This makes it possible to create very specific colors that are not possible with standard RGB(A)W light sources. To achieve color consistency between different batches, all lamps are calibrated before delivery, ensuring a high-quality color mixing always occurs. This results in a CRI value that is equal to or higher than 96. This is unprecedented. Truly every colour is spot-on. From red to blue or green to purple. Even the white tones between 2700K and 6500K achieve a minimum of 96.

Which filters come with the Astera AX9 when I rent it?

By itself, the Astera AX9 PowerPAR has a beam angle of 13°, but you can of course adjust this entirely to your liking. We always supply the AX9 with two types of diffusers to widen the light beam. Using a Flood filter, the beam angle is increased to 30°. If you install the Wallwash filter, it’s even widened to 46°. This way, you can adjust the beam angle of the AX9 completely to the ideal scenario for your event.

  • No Filter: Beam of 13°
  • Flood Filter: Beam of 30°
  • Wallwash Filter: 46° x 17° Beam

What is the battery life of this Astera AX9 wireless LED spot?

Wireless lighting is becoming increasingly established in the events industry. Clients are aware of its existence and increasingly expect that you as a supplier can provide it. Let’s face it, ugly cables for connecting mood lighting or uplights are no longer of this time, are they? The housing of the AX9 PowerPAR contains a powerful and reliable LG Chem battery to allow the lamps to function for up to 20 consecutive hours with the correct settings in the AsteraApp. Fully charging the battery takes only 5 hours, but of course, you can also use the fixtures on mains power if desired.

What is seamless runtime in lighting and why is it important?

Actually, the functionality of the battery is only valuable if you know for sure when the battery will run out. This is why all Astera fixtures have the ‘seamless runtime’ functionality. Here, the spot itself, in combination with the AsteraBox, calculates how much capacity the spot can use to reach the set end time. This way, Astera lamps will never fail during the event.

How does the wireless communication of an Astera AX9 work?

To ensure optimal wireless communication between the controller and lights, the AsteraBox has been developed. This interface functions as a ‘translation machine’ and converts commands into an RF signal (865 – 870 MHz) that the lights can work with. At the same time, the lights also send information back to the AsteraBox, which you can read via the application. This specific frequency band was not only chosen to prevent interference (the usual 2.4 GHz band is very busy), but it also increases the range to up to 300 meters. In addition to using the AsteraBox in combination with the Astera app, you can also use it as a wireless DMX transmitter in combination with a lighting console. This way, you have full control and can operate the lights in the ‘usual’ manner. In many situations, the Astera application itself will already offer sufficient possibilities for controlling the lights.

Can the Astera AX9 be used flicker-free?

They’re popping up everywhere; cameras. Now that more and more events are taking place partly or entirely online, the need for cameras is greater than ever. However, this can cause problems in combination with LED lighting. LED lamps don’t burn continuously, like an old-fashioned incandescent bulb did. Actually, an LED lamp flickers very quickly. We can’t perceive this, but a camera lens can. Using the AsteraBox and the accompanying application, you can set the frequency of the light source between 200 and 1205 Hz. You only need to indicate the frame rate at which the cameras are set. The application automatically adjusts the refresh frequency of the lamps, but of course you can also determine this manually.

What does the theft alarm of an Astera fixture do?

The Astera AX9 PowerPAR is also equipped with a motion sensor. When someone moves or removes a spotlight, the fixture can give auditory and visual signals, if this setting is turned on in the AsteraApp, in the form of a siren and light flashes. This potentially deters ill-intentioned individuals from continuing their action. In the application, you can fully customize the sensitivity, type, and delay of the alarm to your liking.

What is the ‘Enter and Leave Standby’ function of the Astera App?

Suppose you set up all the equipment for an event or film shoot a day earlier, then you want to have as much battery capacity left as possible when arriving at the location the next day. The enter and leave standby mode helps you put all lights simultaneously in or out of standby mode. You can also link times to this, after which the lights themselves activate or deactivate this mode. This way, you can’t forget it yourself. Handy, right?

How does the emergency lighting function of the Astera App work?

As a final note, there’s another useful function for which you can use the fixtures, including the Astera AX9 PowerPAR. Namely as emergency lighting. It can happen that the power unexpectedly fails. This often results in a dark space where panic can break out. When you connect the fixtures to the mains, they can automatically take action when it fails. It is possible for the fixtures to automatically display white light when this happens. This way, visitors are never in a dark space and there is no reason for panic.
